Welcome to The Bearded Mainer Photography
I am a local wedding, engagement, family and adventure photographer based in Brewer, Maine. I have a passion for those inspired folks that want to enjoy Maine to the fullest. Be it the scenic hikes, rocky coast, sandy beaches and lush forests of Acadia National Park and the Downeast region, or the stunning wedding venues found all across this State; you will have a unique experience when I am capturing your place within it all.
When you choose me as your Photographer…
You can expect not only a photographer, but a hiking buddy, a wingman, a wedding day assistant, and a friend to rely on. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about your mountain top surprise proposal, or your wedding day. I’ll be there to help you conceive and implement your vision, pump you up when the adventure has worn you down, bring magical moments to your day, and leave you saying “wow” when you see the final results of our hard work together. Good photography takes teamwork, after all!
It starts with a great location
As a lifelong Mainer who grew up in Downeast Maine, I have explored many of the awe-inspiring locations that this State has to share. I can tell you the best days and times to visit Acadia, join you for remarkable trails less traveled in one of our numerous State Parks or Land Preserves, and recommend the perfect wedding venue for your vision.
Looking for a specific location you or I haven’t visited before? No problem. I’m happy to scout it out and report back to you; any reason for an adventure, am I right? You’ll feel confident that you picked the right photographer the moment you arrive at your session location.
You say you don’t like posed shots?
That’s ok! During my sessions I use a variety of techniques to capture natural moments of joy, love, passion, focus and play. There will always be a few posed shots, but no need to worry. I keep these poses natural to you and your abilities (and I even demonstrate them for you!). We’ll get creative until we find just the right angle to make you look and feel confident and amazing every time you look back at the shot.
Much of my posing is considered Guided Activity. During Guided Activity you will be given an activity to perform instead of standing still for a pose. They are always super easy, and completely customizable to your comfort and ability. How fun is that?
For family sessions I like to choose locations where young kids can just play. Play brings out the most natural expressions of fun and joy with families, and it keeps that energy burning so we can keep their attention when we really need it.
Wedding posing brings with it unique opportunities for posing and Guided Activity with you, the wedding party, and your family and guests. Nobody wants boring wedding photos, after all.

As an artist, I love the creative process from start to finish. I can’t wait to share in it with you. Photography opens the door to so many great opportunities and experiences. I feel privileged to have been there for each and every past experience with my clients, and I am looking forward to all of the new ones.
I suppose it’s my sense of adventure, my passion for those ‘wow’ moments, and my love-of-love that drives me to get up and create something interesting everyday. How boring a day it would be without something to create?

Who is The Bearded Mainer?
Shaun Crockett is the artist and photographer behind The Bearded Mainer. He was born and raised on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Shaun has a Leo birth sign and a compassionate, good-humored, leadership-oriented personality to match. He is sure to put a smile on your face, and help you build confidence in yourself; creating a sense of connectedness and trust between you and your photographer.
Outside of photography and art, he is a full time dad to a sweet little girl. She has been his best inspiration in life. Shaun also has the support of his partner Kevin, and his grandmother Myrle, backing him everyday, and in everyway. Without these folks The Bearded Mainer wouldn’t be possible.
Shaun is also a cat dad, with two loving fur-purs named Luxor and Celine. In addition to cats, Shaun enjoys aquascaping and fish keeping. During his free time he practices painting nature scenes inspired by Maine and other scenery he has come across in his travels. Shaun loves diving deep into classic novels with his story-obsessed daughter, as she learns to read herself. Their favorites include Beyond the Bright Sea, The Secret Garden, and The Big Friendly Giant.
When Shaun is not behind the camera or being a dad, he can be found working in the construction trade designing and renovating kitchens, baths, decks, and new construction homes. Talk about a man with tricks up his sleeve!
Shaun is a member of the Maine Professional Photographer’s Association, and has been published in The Bangor Daily News, The Mount Desert Islander, and The Ellsworth American.
